First off I would like to apologize in advance for my lack of technical expertise when it comes to cars. I just bought a 2000 Civic LX and I love it, but it seems to have one problem. Whenever I turn on the vent, it doesn't kick on until it is on the maximum setting. With any of the settings below that, it doesn't feel like it's blowing anything, and if it is it's so faint that I can't tell. When it is on the max setting, it works well (the heat is hot, the A/C is cold), but I hear a very loud and annoying squeak about once every 30 to 120 seconds (though it becomes less frequent the longer it runs) from the passenger side dash. I was wondering if anyone might know what could cause this, and maybe how much I'm looking at paying for a replacement part(s). I read another topic in this forum where someone mentioned a blower motor, but his issue was a bit different than mine. Thank you in advance.

Sorry, didn't see your original post. It sounds like the noise is from the passenger footwell area, where the blower motor is. If you test and the switch is fine, I'd replace the blower with a used one or new ($78 on-line, $111 at a dealer). Super easy to install as well.

Re: Climate Control Problem
ive got a similar issue where on my 96 DX there are four blower settings [ 1 / 2 / 3 / 4 ].
1 and 2 dont really do anything, 3 is moderate, and 4 is pretty good, but not great. it really only kicks on in the 3rd position. same issue? should i just get the blower tested at a shop?

could be the blower resistor/transistor too. do you have cabin filters? they may be clogged and blocking airflow.

Re: Climate Control Problem
are cabin filters really necessary? im guessing they are housed somewhere in the dash, or about the level of the fuse box. havent checked them yet - i dont even know if i have them.

well no, they are just a convenience i guess, for people with allergy. you get better airflow without them. and if you open the windows, it wont matter anyway that youre sucking in filtered air or not. most people never change them and a few yrs later, they are so nasty that it causes more allergy and gets so full the air hardly blows anymore.
