Fan problem
Alright for the last few months my fan has not been kicking on and I have definitely let it heat up enough. I have swapped the fuses and relays with the AC ones and still nothing. I have taken the relay out and applied direct power to the fan and the fan then turns on. I realized this problem after I replaced the thermostat and I never know the exact temp since I no longer have a temp needle. I'm looking for anything to troubleshoot as I don't want to take it to goodyear for electrical diagnostics as its $75 down and $50/hour. Thanks guys.

Re: Fan problem
our cooling fan hardly ever comes on unless its really hot out and youre driving hard. to make sure the fans work, turn the a/c on. both fan should turn on immediately. if they dont, you know its an actual fan issue or a fuse/relay. but if youre sure it should be coming on, then it may be a bad fan switch which is a sensor screwed inside the coolant/waterhose system close to the thermostat and ECT (engine coolant temp) sensor.

Re: Fan problem
Yeah see someone told me that before and they may be right but when the fan kicked on before I was unable to get it to turn on with the ac fan as well. Where exactly would I find it? is it going to be a sensor somewhere close to the thermo? or is it going to be a switch near the pump housing or what?

Re: Fan problem
its a sensor with a harness plug on it. and both fan should always come on when the a/c is on or something is wrong. the fan sensor/switch is just below the upper rad hose, right next to the thermostat. the ECT is mounted above next to the egr valve. 17 is the ECT, 16 is fan temp switch.

Re: Fan problem
Hmm well when we replaced the thermo I thought maybe it cam loose or whatever so I just checked the connector and everything is fine there. The fan still doesn't come on with/without ac. So I guess tuesday I'm buying a new fan temp sensor. do I need to remove #7 or can I just take the sensor out? I realize either way coolant will come out but I want to make the smallest mess possible. Tnx for your help gear

Re: Fan problem
im pretty sure those sensors have a hex pattern on top so a socket can take em off. also i think the cel will come on if the ect is bad, but not for the fan sensor.

Re: Fan problem
Yeah, I just ordered one from NAPA and when I had originally called them they said $50+ for the switch I laughed at the dude and said no really whats the price, Autozone told me $20. He wasn't kidding ... I stopped in just to check out the part and talked to the same guy, oops, and said do you have anything lower and he said they car "Low Miled" parts and that one would be $27. He also mentioned that they have a vendor that now carries OEM parts and that one came to $20.70, I would just have to wait a day.
Ordered the OEM one and awaiting the call. I wonder if all NAPAs are now carrying OEM parts for cheap. Can anyone help me verify? I'm in South Central PA. Thanks guys.
