Question '99 Civic EX 5spd lacking torque

Hello all, first post here! I've got a '99 EX 5spd that is lacking a lot of torque. I just had the clutch replaced tonight in hopes it would fix the problem, but it didn't. I'm not sure what else it could be!

Besides lacking torque, there are two other symptoms. The first is when I give it gas on and off while moving slowly in first gear, the car jerks forward and backward as if the clutch were engaging and disengaging, and at the same time I can see the shift stick moving forward and backward also.

The second symptom is that it takes more effort than it should to get into first gear from a dead stop. I have to sit with the clutch pedal halfway out for a moment to let the clutch smoothly engage before taking my foot all the way off. (bad for the clutch I know, but it jerks hella bad if I don't)

It makes no abnormal sounds while doing any of these things.

What might be causing it to do this?

Check the fluid in the clutch line.

Re: '99 Civic EX 5spd lacking torque

I agree with SQL-bleed the hydraulic clutch fluid (brake fluid). If you have air in the lines it will react this way-or you may be just low on fluid. Check the reservoir. If it is just low-I'd bleed the system to replace the fluid anyway. That fluid (and brakes) are the most overlooked maintenance item IMO. If it's dark replace it (should be clear).

Of course, our cars are Civics. They aren't exactly high on the torque meter to begin with.
