ok so i blew the b20z and dropped in a 92 B16A completely rebuilt with itr intake manifold itr valve train, stage 1 pro skunk2 cams and all that. I have an EX/Si OBDII wiring harness and a 00 Si ecu. Now i know your all going to say "theres a million threads on this ****" but i cant seem to find one that addresses my particular problem.

So the swap went in, i rewired the dizzy so my OBDII dizzy plug would fit the OBDI dizzy plug and wired the vtec up. Everything is fine as far as vacuum leaks and plugs for sensors and **** go. I read about using OBDI dizzys with OBDII ecus but in all those cases the car wouldn't even start. Mine starts and idles and runs. Only thing is, it does all three like utter ****.

First i though that 87 octane that i was running in the b20z triggered the knock sensor cuz i could here it pinging and knocking when i first cranked it. I drained the fuel added four octane boosters and 93 to the tank and it didnt help. I figured this would be it too cuz when i went to adjust the timing, no matter if i advanced the dizzy or retarded it it wouldn't get better or worse.

I thought maybe the ecu->dizzy was a problem but the car starts and runs and idles. Is it ABSOLUTELY crucial to run a matching ECU->dizzy? It's driving me insane

Does it sound like i still have a dizzy problem?

First check to be sure the your spark plug wires are going to the correct cylinder. I know that sounds crazy, but double check the wires at the distributor. Otherwise an OBDII car with an OBDI engine is best left to a conversion wire harness and an OBDI ECU IMO.

well i got it running. There are markings on the dizzy cap, one at the top that says A and one at the bottom that says D. I figured ABCD would be 1,2,3,4. HA guess again, D is position 1. I guess in Japanland D is the first letter of the alphabet....
