i dont know if i should buy this car, its a 98 civic lx with 200k miles on it, it has all original parts on it. the price is 3k. i am thinking of getting it because i will be able to pay it in payments over 15months, and dont have a car right now... based on this, would it be worth buying, would i need a new engine soon, if so how much would it cost, would i need to replace anything else soon, is the price too much.........

a lot can go wrong in 200 thousand miles...

at 200k its a bit much. a lot of things could go wrong, and it will just end up hurting your wallet in the long run. I'm sure you can find a Honda with less miles on it for under 3K. I have a 99 civic LX and so far i spend my money only on maintenance since it reached the 100k marker last year. had to replace all fluids, filters, spark plugs, wires, timing belt, water pump, even the serpentine belt needed to be replaced. so try to find another HONDA.

Serpentine belt? It doesn't have one 99civic99, but actually has individual belts for alt/ps/ac.

Anyway, 200k? It depends. If you can get proof of oil changes and all maintenance/repairs done I'd seriously consider it but NOT for over kelly blue book. Check out it's actual value at www.kb.com and be sure to do a carfax report-can't stress that enough. Be sure to check the CV boots (as usual), steering rack end boots and exhaust condition etc. Any of those will knock down the value.

True my bad, three seperate belts right? well you know what i mean, but i agree if the car was well maintained it could still have a lot of life left, but there are some problems to deal with.
