01 automatic tranny problem

Several wks ago I had an accident and my car was hit on the front edge, knocking off my bumper and bending one of the two engine frame pieces that go to the bumper. Car drove fine afterwards. A week after I got it back from the body shop, my tranny totally disengaged while driving. I coasted to the side of the road, turned off the car, then back on and got it to barely go into first-even tried manually the gears which didn't work. After I got it home it sat for several hrs then I tried it and now its worked fine for several days. Fluid checked fine, a mechanic friend checked it out even with an electronic computer tester, no problems. He said the tranny is good, could be a solenoid. Any suggestions?

Re: 01 automatic tranny problem

thats weird and very hard to figure out. could be a number of sensors on the trans housing or the connectors that could have been loosened. could even have internal damage. keep driving it and see if it happens again.

Re: 01 automatic tranny problem

It did start sliding again just driving a short distance and last time it did this it died on me. In speaking to a friend he said if cold it will probably work, but when warmed up it will start acting up. He said I needed a new tranny, but hard to say what caused it, accident or what. Luckily I have someone who will put one in for $250-$350 and the part at the most will be $900.
