AEM short ram on a 98 LX

Hi
I'm having some trouble putting my short ram on my Civic. I got the stock intake tube, box and filter off ok, but wasn't sure where the new intake tube attaches. Do I have to remove that black box thing up near the front of the original intake? What is that, by the way? (it's shown in pic 2)

thanks
Trevor

yep, got her figured out (awhile ago)

turns out that black box is the "air box"
which DOES have to come off to make room for the filter to fit
