Clutch acting strange
Clutch acting strange
Hey guys and girls,
I am new to this site but am hoping someone can help me with a problem that I am having with my 96 hatch civic.
Lately that when the car is cold I push the clutch to the floor put in 1st gear and as I release the cutch it comes about half way out before it starts to disengage and I can hear and feel the car starting to move forward.
After the car has been driven approx 10 minutes and is warmed up I do this same thing. I push the clutch to the floor put it in 1st gear and as soon as I start releasing the clutch the car starts to move. I don't remember this happening before so I am going to assume it just started happening. The only thing that happened lately is that I had the transmission fluid topped off, it was 1/2 liter low. The mechanic topped it off with 10w30 motor oil.
Any insight would be much appreciated.

Re: Clutch acting strange
Honda recommends Honda Manual Transmission Fluid not 10w30 for your vehicle. Check your owners manual. I would drain the whole ting and do it right.
Check the fluid level in the clutch line resovoir. It's next to the brake master cylinder. Make sure it filled with brake fuild to the proper level.

I did notice that after it started happening again I will pump the clutch a few times put it back in gear and it works normal so it is obviously something to do with the clutch mechanism.
Thanks again
Re: Clutch acting strange
Yes HMT fluid is very similar to engine oil so you can use oil temporarily in an emergency. HMT fluid does have certain additives that enhance its performance.
