Is modding this engine worth it?
Is modding this engine worth it?
I very recently bought my first Honda Civic, not as a first choice, I actually was gunning for VW Golfs, but this turned up and appeared to be a very good car.
I am very impressed for what I got for my money, but currently, the performance is not fantastic. Unfortunately, I didn't do my homework first.
The 1.5 Lsi (Eu) is runs on what I believe is know in the US as an Economy VTEC - D15Z6 Engine, which was apparently an equivelant to D16Z6 in the US.
Notably, this means that it doesn't get the performance benefits of a True Intake/outlet Vtec Engine. Currently this model has an output of 115 BHP.
At the moment, it is unlikely that I am going to be able to use this car during the next 4 weeks or so, which leaves me plenty of time to attack it, should I want to, but, is it really worth it? I rather stupidly, initially confused this with a 7th Gen, when it is ofc a 6th ('97) and I've been trying to get some postpurchase info that might stop me from feeling I've misbought.
One forum has suggested that using the Gearbox / trans from a 5th Gen may work as the gear ranges on this model are too long, but thats fairly involved work. Another suggests straightforward swapout of the engine for a B16 or better, which would be massively costly, a recent check on ebay put the cost of a B16 engine (no trans) at slightly over £200.00 more than I paid for the car.
Would something as simple as new carbourettor, air intake (short or cold) , and manifold / decat and better exhaust return respectable results?
At the moment, all I really have got as far as is new rims and tyres, as I can at least keep them if I decide to sell on.

Its up to you and what you want. You might have a warranty in your purchase contract saying if your unhappy after __ miles or __days, return it for a full refund.
