Dome lights

In my 97 Civic Ex, my dome lights refuse to come on when I open my doors.
I have to manually switch it to the "on" position, and they work fine.
Yes, I have tried it in the middle position too xD but they won't turn on for some reason.
What should I do/check?

Re: Dome lights

check the door trigger to see if the ground is still good. or it might be broken. should be a nipple looking thing near where the door closes against the car body

Re: Dome lights

So, I unscrewed the "nipple" and all I saw was some sort of plastic connector, and a green wire leading from it.
Where is the ground at?

Re: Dome lights

its grounded through the screw to the door frame. so make sure there is no rust or corrosion around that area. could be just a bad ground.

Re: Dome lights

I didn't see any rust or anything.
The switch pushes in just fine too.
Hmmm, is there anything else that could cause it?

Re: Dome lights

If you replaced the stock head unit it disables the dome light when the doors open but the dome light will still work. Thats what happened with my 97 ex. I'm not 100% sure but i think the stock head unit controls all that stuff.

Re: Dome lights

Ahh! Why didn't I think of that X_X
Thanks man.
I'm guessing the only way to bypass this would be to mount my old headunit somewhere.

Re: Dome lights

Well, how would I go about running both?
I know the connector that needs to be hooked to the stock unit, but do I need to get some juice to it too?

Re: Dome lights

well what i did with mine was run separate power and ground wires for the good deck. so that would be easy for your situation. just plug the harness to the stock radio and run your aftermarket with independent power and ground. i believe the factory deck just has to be getting power to activate the dome light and keyless. so you can just cut and splice the speaker wires to your new deck.
