Re: increase performance

lynn,

It would be helpful to know what specific model civic you have, what mods you've already done to it, and how many miles are on the engine.

However, if I was to improve low end response I would not do those mods. Maybe you should consider the following:

lightened flywheel
lightened crank pulley
Y8 transmission
increase displacement (bore and/or stroke)
B18 or B20 swap

Re: increase performance

Its ek 96 so4. Its about 164, 000 mileage. my service is due at 165, 000 so I'm thinking of doing the mod at one go. I havent done any major mods actually just a drop in air filter and a bullet.

I heard that crank pulley is bad for the gear box. Is it true?

Help much appreciated.
Thanks

Re: increase performance

An auto tranny (aka slush box), huh? Improving low end power in this case is not very promising in my opinion. It may not be what you want to hear but swap out the auto for a manual and you will get a big gain on the low end. It will also set you up for other mods that will improve that power band further. One option is to get the lightest rims for your tires that you can find.

The buzz on lightened crank pulleys is that they cause pre-mature bearing wear in the engine not the gear box. The reasoning behind it is that the OEM pulley has provisions built into it to absorb the harmonics of the crank shaft. Typically, the aftermarket pulleys don't have a harmonic dampener. Again, this is just forum buzz, many have installed these pulleys with no problems.

Re: increase performance

Get another car with a standard gearbox..and then add a b16 dohc vtec and a set of cams intake and headers..get a proper exhaust too not a wal-mart fart can..or if u wanna keep that car and engine then ditch the fart-can they sound dumb on an auto or get a proper gearbox then cams and exhaust..
