Problems with tach
Problems with tach
Okay here is what is going on.
I own a 97 civic dx. I did a cluster swap for an lx/ex cluster about a month ago, everything was fine and i was really pleased.
Now i went to put LEDs in my instrument lights and in doing so i took off the tach needle and panel
(not necessary to put in the lights but i was trying to fix the hot and cold spots because the LEDs dont fill in the light as well as the lamps did)
Well after i had done what i had done and put it all back together i went and tested all my gauges to see if everything worked alright and everything did
But last night while i was driving i noticed my tach was lagging and not working correctly. I noticed when i took it back out that there was a little slop on the needle and it would work fine if you held it up but a few seconds after you let it go it would drop a mm and then not work.
let me know if you have any idea what is wrong and/or if you know how to fix it. The tach worked just fine before i took the needle off and put it back on so i know its the way i put the needle back on.

Re: Problems with tach
Well I'm not a real expert here on how the tach is put together but I've farted around with them when I installed my reverse glow gauge faces and black lights. Those needles are hard to remove and tricky to stick back on the correct spot. What I ended up doing was to hook up my portable tach and reved the engine to say 1000rpm, then I stuck the needle on at 1000rpm. So first thing is to make sure you have the needle attached in the right spot. Second, you may have shoved the needle on too far or crooked and it's rubbing somewhere.
Hope that helps.
Hope that helps.
Re: Problems with tach
yeah
ive tried taking it out and putting it back in many times now but im still having the same problem of the needle doesnt move freely unless i lift it up a little bit, and it will stay up for a moment then drop back down
thanks for your imput, if anyone else has a suggestion please let me know
