vtec not noticable?

my vtec in my 98 ex d16y8 is not hitting hard at all... im just wondering if in the d16y8 it doesnt hit hard and if possible can i make it hit harder? make it actually do something?

pathetic that vtec is only noticeable by a slight change in the sound.
like I said, look around for what cams are out there- that should beef it up.

Why is that pathetic?
The transition is smooth by design. You'll only likely hear a noticable sound difference if you have an aftermarket air intake. Otherwise the OEM intake sound resonator will muffle it.
