2004 Civic EX 1.7, 5 speed manual, timing belt?

I know it is recommended to change the timing belt I think at 90000 miles or so, and it is a gamble going beyond that.

I am just wondering, assuming a car isn't abused, how long have people gone before changing them?

Car looks to be in cherry condition otherwise, just under 95000 miles.

Timing belt will probably the first thing on my priority list if I buy it. If I to the belt, is there anything else I should check or replace as long as that side of the engine is tore open?

Are there any other red flags I should look for when purchasing, other than the obvious?

I am not that familiar with older Honda's.

What is everyone's opinion of the EX 1.7 engine in 2004? Doing some research it looks like it has a little more "oomph" than the cheaper models.

timing belt, water pump, auto tensioner. might as well swap the ac/ps and alternator belts while you're in there since they're inexpensive, unless those have been changed out recently

The head gasket will almost certainly go bad. For me it happened around 170k miles.

Lol, happened to me at 125k. Then again, I beat the crap out of that engine (albeit, maintained properly)

While your just over the mileage limit for the timing belt, you 2x past the other important consideration, the age limit.

That belt has been under tension for 14 yrs........
