trans issues were fixed for the 04 model year, regular fluid services should be performed anyways though

My 05 has over 230K miles on the original trans and is working great. I also took good care of it. However, the trans in my 04 Civic pretty much failed with about 105K miles on it. I don’t know the service history, but it had clean fluid in it when my aunt gave it to me.

01-03 were the bad years, you can put an 04-05 trans in an 01-03 car.
Or just buy a manual car

my 05 civic dx has 320000. just recenttly lost reverse or have some issuesinn reverse. I bet i can drive it like it these to 400,000 which is my goal. or till it drops dead before i swap one or rebuilt it.
I did regular fill and drain..
I still dont understand why other civic dont last as long.. must be they dont do trans service or they beat the **** out of it.

Clutch pack material breaking down and clogging up intake screen is killer in 01-03. 04-05 has a significantly larger intake screen that by the time it almost clogs up your clutches have lost so much material they are free spinning anyways.

Yes new, larger one will fit.
Scale of 1-10 taking apart automatic transmission is a 4, putting it back together is a 9...
The new version looks like they welded two of the original ones together in a V shape.
It’s #6 in these pictures

Curious that both 2003 and 2005 have the same part number (25420-P4R-013) for the ATF strainer even though the photo shows two different size strainers.
Must be that the smaller strainer is no longer available and you must use the larger one for all 2001-2005 ATs from now on?

2003 here with 115K miles with no issues. Drain and fills of Honda DW-1 every 3rd oil change.

I can't figure out how to post a new discussion so here i am
I'm here because I am having some interesting heating troubles with my Honda Civic 2005 sedan. When I am on the freeway or driving normally it seems to be fine most of the time. If its a hot day and I have been driving for a bit and I stop at a light or go through a fast food drive through, then it will begin to overheat, reaching 3/4 or even the red mark. We had the head gasket replaced months ago so I can't easily believe that's the problem (I hope not). I popped the hood and studied the 2 engine fans, they run for about 8-10 secs and stop for about 5-8 secs and repeat, I don't think that's at all normal. Maybe it could be the thermostat? Though, I was told that if it was the thermostat then it wouldn't be changing depending on how fast I'm going. Was also told it could be the heat sensor.Anyway, any help on diagnosing this overheating issue would be amazing and thank you all!
