Hello all, looking to purchase a 2005ish civic to commute and save some gas. Found a few from 85k-112k miles for $6-7000.
If maintained they will last along time I kbow, wgat are some common issues to look for? Should I take to mechanic to inspect? Heard 100k service is timing belt, plugs and water pump. Possibly belts and hoses and should be around $1300.
Just trying to stop commuting in my tahoe haha! Thank you and glad to join everyone!

proof of timing belt service/replacement, it "should" have been done by now, if no proof of it factor that into the cost of the car and get it done ASAP,
listen for "clunking" over bumps or other odd noises in the front end, LCA bushings, ball joints, and wheel bearings are common to go around that age/mileage

If you think a good mechanic is expensive, try hiring a bad one

To add, the 2 accessory belts SHOULD be replaced as part of the timing belt job.
Suggest a tensioner pulley and spring set for the timing belt if you plan to keep it past another 100k. Go FACTORY on that part, no exceptions.
1300 sounds high IMO, but we can't see the estimate.
Hoses may outlast the rest of the car, failure is rather rare IMO.
