Rep Power: 0 Need New Cat for 2004 Calif Civic
Yesterday my 2004 Civic display a ODB2 Code P2000.
When I looked it up- it pointed toward a new Cat for the exhaust system.
My HF currently has 165 k on her.
So the million $ question - where's the best place to purchase a new Cat and should I simply look in classified ?
Thanks in advance for your replies.

well because you live in tree hugging california i would only buy a new oem honda cat which is going to be very expensive. the reason being is that after market cats even the california legal ones are just not up to the same quality of oem and because of that a new after market cat could potentially still fail smog. also they could potentially last half or less time of a oem cat so you would be in the same boat. used oem cats are also iffy regarding life span.

If you think a good mechanic is expensive, try hiring a bad one

If you have an HX, I'd strongly urge to get only a new cat from a dealer. That's the surest way to keep the computer happy for the longest period of time.
An HX Civic should have 2 cats and 3 sensors. Make sure of which cat the code is for, and which cat you are getting. The P2000 code is related to the NOx absorptive cat, that's the rear cat.
Also, try clearing the code and see how long it takes to reset it again.
