If you're talking about cosmetic, then no nothing wrong. But if you want to start with engine mods, it's not worth it because there is no point in having power in a car if you''re restricted to the automatic transmission. You want to be able to control the power you put in to your liking.

That being said, our D17 engines don't respond well to normal bolt on attachments. They just don't give any power at all. You're going to want to swap to a k series engine for power, or spend lots and lots of money on the D17.

Do you want to have a car that's really fun to drive and maybe make stronger with engine upgrades and whatnot? Then yes, either do a transmission swap or get another car.

Do you want a reliable, fuel efficient car that's mostly show and no go? Then no, keep the auto.

Speaking of 2001 auto's, they're known to fail. All the time. They're actually very bad transmissions and there's tons of horror stories about them. You best bet, in my opinion, is to keep the auto transmission until it dies (it will, trust us), then either get a 2005 auto transmission or do a manual tranny swap.

Wink Re: Automatic Or Stick

Ive heard some tale that an automatic with turbo is faster in the spool then any standard because the computer control operates in a faster gea change than any person could, what do you think? Or is this one more dumb *** story out there.
