*HELP* Whirring when accelerating after timing belt change

Hi there, I recently had my timing belt, water pump, cam, crank seals and cover gaskets changed on my 2005 Honda Civic, all due to oil leaks and the engine overheating. NOW, when I accelerate there is a whirring noise that was never there. I brought it back to the mechanic and he says that’s ‘normal’. The timing belt is new and not covered with oil anymore so it’s going to be a little louder. He said. I’ve had the timing belt changed before (by the same guy mind you), and I call BS on this one. Not to mention that when the car is idling now there is a completely separate clinky noise. Any thoughts? ***PLEASE HELP***

Overheating... was there any damage to the headgasket?
In my experience, if anything an engine tends to be slightly quieter after a timing belt replacement. My first thought is the belt may be rubbing on either the upper or lower timing belt cover. Maybe the alternator or power steering belt is too tight or too loose?
Bring it to another mechanic for a second opinion. Post a video of the noise here.

Re: *HELP* Whirring when accelerating after timing belt change

Thanks for the reply. The head gasket had already been replaced once. And the timing belt before that at 147k miles. The car was leaking oil for quiet sometime but came to a head recently when the overheating started. The heater would not blowout hot air when the car was idle or below 20 mph. If it stayed idle too long the car would overheat. He also tried to tell me I might need a new radiator but I reminded him we just changed the one I have a year ago because it blew. I can definitely post a video in the AM of what it sounds like.

One of the symptoms of a head gasket breach.

Losing coolant in radiator and gaining coolant or overflow in reservoir?
You may want to rent (free) a block tester and purchase a bottle of $10 test (blue) fluid. Block test is simple to perform and if blue test fluid turns yellow or green there is a headgasket breach.

Any CEL's?
Does it still overheat after timing belt kit replacment?

get that belt noise checked asap by a different mechanic, you dont want the new timing belt to fail and bend the valves
