Block Swap help d17a2 to d17a1

I need alittle advice. I have a 2004 civic ex with a d17a2. crank issues from over heating. I'm very low income so i can't just go buy a crate engine. But i have a d17a1 in a parts car in my back yard. I want to keep the vtec. Can i swap my d17a2 block out for the d17a1 block and what would i need to do. please throw me a bone here. Lol I'm limited due to funds. Thanks....

yes, you can. compression drop a little, no oil squirters under pistons, otherwise, compatible.

use new head gasket, timing belt now that you are going to do the job anyway.
