What's an engine worth?

Found a complete engine with (reportedly) 70k miles on it out of a 7th gen. I don't think it's VTEC, while the car we have does have VTEC. The only reason I'm thinking of picking it up is to tear it down with my GF's son so he can learn how it all works/goes together. With it being a non-VTEC, I don't suppose we'd be able to use much of it as spare parts for the '01 EX he has. Once we're done with it, it either gets parted out/sold for whatever we can get, or scrapped.

What abouts would it be worth? The owner reportedly has the whole vehicle, so I can check it out and see why it is being parted out in the first place, too.

Re: What's an engine worth?

The only difference is the head (vtec vs. non-vtec) and the bottom end's compression ratio (9.5:1 vs 9.9:1). Higher compression in the D17A2, that is. It'll all bolt together fine, though (e.g. vtec head on non-vtec block and vice versa).

I'd say 400 bucks maybe? I bought a d17a2 with less than 1000 on it and I got it for 750 shipped.

Re: What's an engine worth?

Scrap price here is $300 but that's in the car without the work to pull it, Riceboy is right $400 sounds fair for a running condition engine.

If it is already rebuilt maybe $1000 (but if you rebuild it to sell shoot video to make it easier to sell later).
