[SOLVED] Car battery replacement.

Quick noob question here. I need to replace the battery on my 2001 EX, I can't find much on google, and only a 51 part number reference.

Anyways, I had no warranty, and the last time it was installed by Autozone.
So I wanted to try the 3 year free replacement deal I saw on Wal-Mart, and when I got the, the sells rep' gave me one woth part number 51r-4, so I didn't think much of it, and it seemed the right size, plus he seemed knowledgeable when he told me the 2001 civics with 4 cylinders needed to have the polarity with the positive on the left, and negative on the right.

However, as soon as I get home, I see that I have a battery part 51-1 with the negative on the left, and the positive on the right.

Didn't try to replace it, should've asked or done some research first, but I didn't, like a dumbass, so here I am.

Any help?

PS: New battery is from EverStart 51r-4 / cold crancking amps 500 / selection number 36

Old battery from Autocraft 51-1 cranking amps 530

Re: Car battery replacement.

You can check the correct walmart battery size for your vehicle in this site http://www.championandeverstart.com/
Then click on battery finder and enter your vehicle
If the wires are flipped you can flip the battery facing backward, they should install it for free if you buy it from them

Thank you! That link gives me the same battery, so I guess I'll try putting it backwards... it's weird it'd be like that, but I'll try.

Re: Car battery replacement.

You can try to flip the battery but the hood prop might hit the terminals. Just take it back and get the correct one.

Solved. The link given by him gives the correct battery. It was supposed to be 51-4 and not 51r-4, to avoid the switch polarity issue . Thank you very much.
