Re: 02 ssm ex

So the darn fuel cap cell returned.... lol

Got a new fuel cap, with a new evap filter. Took care of that. Got new RS sides in the mail. Now it is time to post pics of me attempting to complete a clean mount job.

yahoooo

Re: 02 ssm ex

Started tearing it down today. P/s pump, motor mount, valve cover, intake, exhaust, coolant, sensors, covers, wheels, etc all off in an hour or less thanks to the shop air. Using my air tools makes it a walk in the park.

Head comes off tomorrow AM. Then it's off to the races.

Re: 02 ssm ex

Looking good! What are your plans for the motor? Building it up for more power or replacing parts?

Re: 02 ssm ex

Thanks man. Plans as of now are replace all gaskets and seals. The head gasket has been leaking synthetic oil all over the transmission, starter, egr, and making a general unpleasant engine bay experience.

Decided to keep this motor, so this and a new fuel pump are in the works. I would love to throw a new camshaft in there, and maybe some other goodies but it comes down to how much money can i spend.

Re: 02 ssm ex

Head removed this morning. Noticed #3 cycliner valves had minimal carbom residue compared to the rest. Looks like a misfire issue. Decided to replace the piston rings at this point.

Re: 02 ssm ex

Thanks man. That is what we think too. The car was bought with 40k on it, so it had some wear and miles.

Yesterday the old piston rings were removed, and the grooves cleaned of all carbon buildup. The new DNJ piston rod bearings came in, as well as the new head.

The new head came with everything full assembled. All that is needed is a valve adjustment.

So new cam, valves, rockers, seals, rings, bearings, and head. Today I should be able to focus on putting it back together. Yesterday was super busy.

Re: 02 ssm ex

haha no it is already gone. Finished the job today. Started up on the first try. Our cars engines are so easy to tear down and rebuild it is amazing. If I did not have to help customers it would have been done in a day or two.

Replaced: Piston rings, connecting rod bearings, crank seal, cam seal, cylinder head, camshaft, springs, valves, rockers, (entire head), every single gasket and seal basically. Valve adjustment was fun. The old piston rings were not moving much, the oil ring was stuck in carbon. Cleaning the ring grooves with a bent piston ring was tedious but worth it. Honing the cylinder walls before insertion of the pistons helped as well. The car runs smooth and clean. Sounds a lot better. Pics!
