Auto Shifter to D3 and not D

I have a feeling i'm gonna get flamed, anyway, here is the question....

When shifting from P to D with the brake pedal depressed (but shifter release button not depressed), mine when all the way to D3 instead of locking at D, is this normal?

Thanks.

7th gen cars, yes it is normal.

You aren't the first to ask.

That's very interesting.
Seems like it was built to drive in D3 instead of D huh.

Thanks for the info!

No.

It only means there is no detent between the two lever position selections.

You can drive it in any of the gear choices you want.

If you are smart, you will know when to do and when not to do that.

One of the gear choices is far better than the rest for 99.9% of everyones normal driving.
