Bad syncro or bearing (4th and 5th gear)

My car has been making loud noise on 4th and 5th gear and when I got it diagnosed (graham tire) told me something about bad synchronizer or bearing, and said i need to get the tranny rebuilt or replaced. my question is how bad it would it be if i keep on driving the car without replacing or fixing the tranny. graham tire is only place where i can get my car fixed since i live in small town in minnesota or is it safe to drive coupe 100 miles to go get the car fixed.

Please help

Re: Bad syncro or bearing (4th and 5th gear)

It's probably the bearing. If it was the synchros then you would have trouble actually getting into gear.

Drive it till the tranny dies. It's hella expensive to have a tranny re-built.
