Burning Smell When at High Revs Down Hills
Burning Smell When at High Revs Down Hills
I own a 2003 Civic DX. Its a standard, and when i go down very steep hills i put it in 1st gear and let the engine do alot of the braking for me. When the RPM reaches 4000 I brake for a few seconds bringing it back down again so it doesn't go too high. When I get to the bottom I smell something burning for about ten seconds, I have pulled over and smelt the brakes as well as popped my hood and smelt the engine but i never catch it in time as it only lasts about 10 seconds. I can't imagine it being the brakes as i am hardly using them. What would this be? BTW my car does not lose any oil.
Re: Burning Smell When at High Revs Down Hills
It could just be carbon burning off from revving so high. When I redline my car every now and then I can smell something. It isn't clutch, so it's the only logical explanation for what's being burned off.
