ECU Reflash

Hello, this is my first time on the forums, and I am hesitantly posting this (In fear of looking like a n00b). I was wondering if it was possible to reflash the ECU on a Automatic 2002 Honda Civic Lx; and if it is possible, where can I get it done, how much is it, and what can I expect to gain from having this done. Thank you.

Re: ECU Reflash

theres no point and idk if hondata or kpro does it but you'd be better off just getting an intake and exhaust and even then you wouldn't gain much.

Re: ECU Reflash

It's not possible, you need to install some sort of ems system.

Oh okay. I already have a Magnaflow Exhaust system and a Intake. Where can I get an EMS system?

Re: ECU Reflash

on an auto, the hondata kpro doesnt work. there are no ecu upgrades for autos as far as i know and even for a manual, i doubt you could get more than 10whp out of a good dyno tune and thats after you spend almost $2k for an ecu.

Re: ECU Reflash

So if I already have a Magnaflow Exhaust System and a Short Ram Cold Air Intake, What other modifications can I do to my Civic to increase acceleration and max speed. I have also already taken out the spare, so no need to comment on lightening it.

Re: ECU Reflash

spare tire is a start, but there is way more you can do to lighten the car and this seems to make the most difference. more than a few bolton parts that add 2hp.

There is NOTHING and I mean NOTHING you can do to make
Ur car "faster" except for spending THOUSANDS of dollars for a turbo or kswap

Adding a hondata won't do anything for your car but maybe gain 5 whp with a proper professional tune (cost you $500 in addition to the 2000$ hondata)

If u wanted anything remotely to a fast car, you bought the wrong car

Re: ECU Reflash

It is not necessarily that I want a fast car. I just want my Civic to be as fast as I can make it. Which it's looking like... unless I spend gobs of money on a Turbo, which I just might do.

Re: ECU Reflash

don't turbo your civic. if anything do a k20 swap. they are around the same price nowadays and a k20 would put you around 190-210 to the wheels with the basic bolt on mods and it would be totally safe to drive everyday and you could then turbo the k20 one day and push 450 to the wheels if you wanted to. so k20 swap is a way better mod if you're gonna spend a couple grand trying to make your car fast.

Hondata will also lighten your wallet by 1k
Turbo, Kswap around 4 to 5k? Even more weight savings available

The auto trans is notoriously famous to die young with stock engine power, so would recommend swapping the trans for auto before even thinking on adding power. And do it after deciding to drop a K20 or not - would be much easier to do all at once that changing everything again.

On separate note, why 1991 when you have a 2002? just curious...

also, what makes a car fast is the nut behind the wheel, then the suspension and finally the engine, when all the previous have been taken care of. We eat drag racers in the roadtrack and they are all crying looking in the mirror at that underpowered car snapping at their rear bumper, passing and then see us going (they can't put the power to the ground anyway when not in straight line :P)

Re: ECU Reflash

You don't need to go as far as k-pro if you are doing a very mild build, if your doing something minor then a piggy back ems will be enough to extract a bit of power out of bolts on and a stage 1 cam.

A stage 1 cam with I/H/E could give you 25hp.

actually, with that there is no need for any ECU/EMS changes. but again that's 25 more ponies that will potentially make the trans go kaput earlier.
