Re: Custom Sub box
Looks really good,
Really nice end results
Couple questions:
What's that material you used to cover it?
You decided not to go with a speaker terminal and routed the wires inside only?
Is that like 12 Gauge speaker wire?
Any pictures of inside?
Would like to see how you bolted it down
Really nice end results

Re: Custom Sub box
Thank you.
Used foam seal tape then neoprene washer ,metal washer and nylon lock nut. to secure the bolt to the car i went through the trunk brace and used fender washers and nylon lock nuts so it would not spin on the nut inside the box.

And thanks for the comments.

Couple questions:
What's that material you used to cover it? Marine Vinyl it has good stretch capability. the local upholstery shop just let me go through their rack and pick something out.
You decided not to go with a speaker terminal and routed the wires inside only? I dont like terminal cups they are normally thin plastic and creating a bigger hole increases the possibility for air leaks. i also use silicone 1 to seal the wire to the box from both sides.
Is that like 12 Gauge speaker wire? Good eye, yes 12g twisted with plastic shield.

Re: Custom Sub box
Really good job on the sub box
I think I'll keep my eye out for that Marine vinyl, looks awesome
The only reason I would get a speaker terminal, is because I can remove the speaker if need be easily, it can be easily sealed by silicone all around since they have a lip, and can also be fiberglassed inside
But as long as it works for u, its all good
And I was wondering why only 12 gauge.
Didn't you say you were powering it with a 500/1v2?
I would go at least 8 gauge on sub wiring with at least Monster/JL/Rockford wires
But that's just me
Do you have a MDF floor board
I would have thought you to bolt it to the floor lol
But again, really great job

Re: Custom Sub box
Thanks Kenny
Yea I thought about using the terminal but I designed it so that it wont come out easily.
also the reason for using security screws on the speaker. No I don't have a mdf floorboard wanted to keep the weight down some. And as far as the speaker wire gauge the voltage loss was minimal for the 5 foot run. Found this cool calculator for the loss numbers check it out . it was a 4 watt loss at the speaker.

Thanks again for the support

Re: Custom Sub box
Talk about shallow mount! Looks like a wild sub...my buddy wants a shallow for his truck was going to suggest him the alpine type r, this however looks comparable.
Are you running it at the full 600 rms?

Re: Custom Sub box
The TW5's are badass, they put out a lot of power for such a shallow sub
And sorry, I'm an Alpine sub hater :P
JL Audio for life!
...Well, that's until I can afford a 12" FI BTL :P

Re: Custom Sub box
well not just there considering the jl 500/1 but it has plenty of power.
I was a JL audio employee and i witnessed first hand the testing performed on their products.. I have been using their products since before i could drive.
I had an original 10w1 playing in my room. .I wont say there are not some other great products out there. But JL audio has never let me down. Take my 500/1 its been playing hard for 5 years without any problems.
As Kenny stated JL FOR LIFE!
I cant wait till they release this years products at CES . I think they are bringing out a 2000-2400 watt amp to power 2 W7s at once. and i know for a fact a new sub is being released.

Re: Custom Sub box
Once I find enough cash laying around, I'll prolly look into upping my W3v2 to a W6v2 with a slot ported box
I currently only have my 500/1v2 set at about ~300watts
Though my W3 can most likely handle it, it doesnt sound as good as the W6 in the lower notes
Just the foam around the speaker speaks for itself
