7th gen vs 6th gen

What are the advantages of a 7th gen (01) versus a 6th gen? We have been looking at late 90 model 2dr 5 spd coupes and came across a 01 that looks promising. 167k miles and has had timing belt and water pump done (I forget how long but was in the last couple of years). What differences are there in the motor, suspension etc.? Thanks, Pat

Re: 7th gen vs 6th gen

if auto transmission, be careful, the 7th is known for dying trans.
Cars are heavier, the suspension have been changed from the double wishbone to strut type (I prefer the double wishbone), being the reason you see tons of 6th gen in racing while very few of the 7th).
good part is that they are newer.

Re: 7th gen vs 6th gen

I prefer 7thgen, i'm not using my car to race, and i like the look of the 7th a lot more than the 6th. coupe taillights are so sexy

But about that auto trans. is that for only US cars or does that apply to Canadians aswell?

Re: 7th gen vs 6th gen

same design, they would not put a different design (worldwide car manufacturing stuff )
There will be some detail differences, some different features, but the overall layout and design is most likely the same (stuck-in filter and hard to replace, for example).
Likely in most of the world, the 7th civics are 1.5, 1.6 liter, but US is 1.7. Market differences, too many V-8 in US, cheaper gas

Re: 7th gen vs 6th gen

Well I was able to show my son some side by side pictures of a 2000 and a 2001 on edmunds. He decided he liked the 6th gen better so we are going to go take a second look at the one we drove last week. The 7th gen had a minor dent in the fender and another smaller one on the door/window frame.

Re: 7th gen vs 6th gen

g'luck and try to see if you can get the maintenance records as well.
110k miles is time to change timing belts and water pump - this is major and time consuming and expensive

Edit: duh! for me - you know that already

Re: 7th gen vs 6th gen

Thanks. I was able to see on the carfax for the 99 that it had some type of service done at a dealership at 82K. Has 136k on it now. Hoping I can call the dealership stated and have them tell me what was done then by the vin. Hope it was the timing belt. I'm sure I can do it. I may not want to but I can. lol. Even though the 01 guy says it has been done doesn't mean it has either. Thanks for your replies sdaidoji.

Re: 7th gen vs 6th gen

One thing that I like about the 7th gen more than 6th is the height of the ride. Basically, I think as a driver, you can see something further and better. However, people drive tons of SUVs so I guess the height is quite useless now.

Re: 7th gen vs 6th gen

I prefer the 6th gen, which is why I ended up getting one. When they switched over the headlight design, I started to like the 7th gen coupes, just could never find any around here for sale.
