03 Civic ex auto stays in 1st gear. Please Help.

RPM goes to 3.5k and still would not change to next gear. Check engine light is also on. What should I do?

I'm 200 miles overdue on oil change.

the other way, i guess.
check engine light first. any autoparts store will read them for you, if you can get there, that is.
Hope you are using D, and not 1 in the shifter

Yeah. Sadly it sounds like it. I'd still check the fluid level and see if you can scan it regardless. One of the clutches or bands might be fubar, or something else in the tranny. That happened to my friend's auto one year.

what if u put the shifter to 2 or 3? I would get the code for the check engine light, it probably has to do with the transmission not shifting. Then go from there

Have the same issue?

Might not be a toasted tranny, could be other things. Throttle Position Sensor comes to mind. It could be in limp mode for a variety of reasons that are fixable, and it would make sense to get a scan code for it first.

(Also, if you disconnected battery or took off the throttle body, could just need to relearn idle... sometimes it'll do stupid things like not want to shift out of park, or not shift out of 1st until it's relearned... I had to find that out the hard way, it was heartstopping lol.)
