OVERHEATING!! Immediate Help please!!!
Ok so the deal is my 02 civic Ex coupe had a radiator crack and was leaking coolant. It was also overheating the engine creating a lot of smoke to purge out of the rad cap.
I replaced the Radiator with a brand new one. I flushed the coolant out and replaced the coolant with a new 50/50 mix.
The car is STILL over heating and i'm still getting all that smoke out of the Rad Cap!!!
The leaking has stopped though...
WHAT'S THE PROBLEM?!?!??
Any help or direction would be MUCH APPRECIATED...
thanks guys,
GFreakSi

Re: OVERHEATING!! Immediate Help please!!!
You may have blown the gasket in your rad cap, and its not gaining pressure to help flow. Also, you may have warped your head or blown a head gasket from overheating. I would try the rad cap first.

Re: OVERHEATING!! Immediate Help please!!!
I'd try cheap and easy fixes before jumping to a blown headgasket. Like mentioned above, change your radiator cap. I'd also try changing the thermostat.
If it still doesn't help, get a compression check done, and if that's not happy, get a leakdown test.

I forgot to mention that I replaced the thermostat with a brand new one. Also, the rad cap came with the new radiator and is brand new....

That's another question I have been meaning to ask.
I have 2 fans that come on when the AC is turned on. Other than the AC being turned on, they don't come on at all. Is that abnormal? Should they be turning on frequently?

Had the exact same thing and problem happen to me after a crack and leak coming back from the track. It was the head gasket. Changed it and the problem went away. If your good you can change the gasket in a day. I got it down to 2 hours now. Done it a few times. lol.

Re: OVERHEATING!! Immediate Help please!!!
Ive done it too... Do ya got overflow actually coming out of your coolant resivoir? If so, then I can almost guarantee its cylinder pressure in your system equaling of course head gasket!!!! Sorry bro...
Re: OVERHEATING!! Immediate Help please!!!
happened to me too... thermostat leak caused me to lose coolant which overheated the car which resulted in a blown head gasket. It was actually a fun job and took me a weekend. No big deal, good opportunity to change the timing belt as well. Good luck. Also, if it's an aftermarket radiator the rad cap might be crappy, imo.
