I have a 2001 LX and I don't know if it came with keyless entry or not. The previous owner didn't offer any remotes when I got the car, so I don't know if it has the option or if he just lost them. Regardless, I bought a remote off eBay. Although the LED would light when I push a button, I put a new battery in it and followed the programming steps I found on here but it still doesn't work. How can I tell if this car even had keyless entry to begin with?

EVERYTHING works except for the keyless entry. It has an aftermarket head unit, but I used the required harness adapter.

I would say it does not have keyless.

The head unit on the 7th gens is only for audio (6th gens used it for other things)

You can get a keyless only system from Crutchfield that works fairly well, tap into your power lock/unlock wiring.
