What else needs to be done at 110kmiles???

Hi,

I'm having the timing belt, water pump, a/c & p/s belts, and valve cover gasket replaced. I dont' know what else needs to be done??? Local honda delearship priced it out to be $509 + tax.

(All these stuff will be an addition) Done some searching here but is it necessary to get the camshaft and crankshaft seals, sparkplug tube, sparkplugs, tensioner replaced???

A local shop mechanic told me that tensioner and sparkplugs are always an option. Sparksplugs alone will cost $77 but they wont charge for service cause they'll be taken out anyway.

Thanks!

Sparkplugs should not cost that much. DIY it's fairly easy to do.

camshaft and crankshaft front oil seals, since they'll be in there already for the timing belt

I think there's prolly maybe 5% of the service reps at the dealership that are honest, the rests are just freakin bullshitters. I asked my wife to call in right after I called to ask for the same quote and they quoted her $1200 and the reason was that in addition to the timing belt kit, they have to adjust the valves and a bunch of other unnecessary bullshit. It makes me wanna puke on them. No wonder they are losing so much business.

Maybe I should go somewhere else before they rape me with unnecessary bullshit they always try to sell to people.

yea you can change your own sparkplugs, its so easy in our car. it will take you literally 10 minutes tops and you will barely have to even lean down to do it. i have the best sparkplugs and they only costed $45 or so for all 4, so save yourself that money and do that part yourself.

Yep! I've taken them out before and sanded each until some of the fouls are gone. Its real basic but like I said, I'm getting ticked with the dealership.

Sanded down spark plugs? This does not seem like good practice. But do enlighten me.

Haha ive sanded a foul plug on my dirt bike before. It worked fine and i didnt need to buy a plug. I was told that it was okay to do on a 2 stroke bike but bad for a 4 stroke. So i don't know about doing it to car plugs tho doesn't sound too good.

i would say you should also follows Gearbox's "forgotten tune-up mods" page. It has everything to do at 100,000 miles. Im doing it to my car in the next week or so. They are all things you can easily do and there are even pictures

I dont know what the diff would if I were to sand down sparkplugs whether from a motocross, atv, tractor, 4 cyl vehicles. I didnt feel or notice anything diff though & saved me $50 at the time. Im not an expert but it worked for me in my pasts vehicles.

While your taking out all that stuff, you might as well replace the headgasket. I've noticed alot of people that have that happen at about your mileage range. It happened to me.

Always good to have a back-up car.

I'm dropping the car off @ the dealership tomorrow Ill ask the service guy how much it will costs to have the headgasket replaced. Dealership also wants extra $33 for replacing the camshaft & crankshaft plus parts ($15) which I will prolly get it done too.

It seems like its getting more & more expensive.

Is it necessary to have the Headvalves adjusted???

They need to be adjusted if they are ticking.. but while they are there you might as well get it done (story of your life, right?)

Oh, BTW.. just because it's an import does not make it a ricer... oh, and another thing... toyota makes more cars in Canada than any other car manufacturer and employs more people than any other car manufacturer going... so shaddap.

done 42 MPG in wighway once, power is not bad, and really few issues so far. Hope you can say the same of yours . Many cars does not even hit the 110 miles without any major action!

Re: What else needs to be done at 110kmiles???

For real! And to be fair, I used to be all about American cars. My last car was a Chrysler product. For a while it did ok, not too many repairs... but as soon as it hit 90,000 miles things just started clicking off one after another like clockwork. It was the ultimate POS. Bought with 73,000 miles and ended with 93,000.

Lets see, items that failed within my 20,000 miles of ownership:

1) Auto Transmission Solenoid
2) Control Arm Bushings
3) Tie Rods
4) Lower Ball Joint
5) Sway Bar Linkages
6) Engine Headgasket
7) Leaking Radiator
8) Alarms went off everytime you opened the door (covered by stealership)
9) Knocking Engine

All of that along with its other "quirks" and more minor "mystery problems". So at 93,000 miles it was just about ready to croak, and the civic with 100,000 (which by the way just turned 100,000 today, my baby is growing up so fast on me... lol) runs like a champ.

So yeah, if im ever going to buy another American car again, its not going to be for a while or atleast until they up their standards big time.

please don't fuel the retard, he is just looking for your reaction.

On another note, i own a 1970 camaro (not a daily driver) but is reliable. Granted it was built back when companies actually built cars that they wanted to last.

WTF! This thread went from informational to crap. Lol! I agree though my family had an 03 Dodge Caravan we enjoyed til it reached 90k & went clockwork of problems. We downgraded to a 07 Camry another pile of problems. We're thinking Pilot or Sequioa next year.

Re: What else needs to be done at 110kmiles???

Anyone old enough to remember the Ford Escorts??? I would have to say American cars improved from the Escorts era because at least now there cars last up to 50k with no problems. My Escort out of the car lot had electrical issues til the day I junked it. Yeah, I was worried that POS might burn down on the side of the road. I had countless times of overheating from that POS car. Lol!!!! I was ashamed to sell it to someone.

Escorts almost as good as the old school ponies... Now THOSE are classic. I swear the car was rusty when it was brand new. A true "two tone".
