Re: New Engine install this weekend!!!

I noticed you live in Utah as well. Where did you find your engine? I have an 2001 LX with 166,000 miles that has suffered from a broken timing belt. I am looking for a replacement. What is the condition of your old engine?

Re: New Engine install this weekend!!!

Are you using the aftermarket crank pulley? If so, isn't that a no-no?

I am keeping my old engine for a boost rebuild, but I might be able to find you one for fairly cheap. Are you looking for an lx engine or an ex? Also how much do you want to spend? Hit me up and ill see if I can help ya out!

No crank pulley, just a/c and alternator.

Re: New Engine install this weekend!!!

Well, I got the new engine in on Saturday! On the first test drive my cv joint died on me and the boot spun around, ripped and tore my abs sensor wire in half! Sooooo, I got new half axles and am picking my sensor up today! But she runs like a champ!!! One day install, and I must say, im pretty proud of myself!!!! Will post pics and advice soon!!! Not many pics cause my camera took a crap on me when I dropped it, but there will be some.

Re: New Engine install this weekend!!!

Did the cv joint die because of an install error or just from being old? I'm going to be pulling some out next week so it would be nice to know. Good job on install.

Re: New Engine install this weekend!!!

Well they where already going bad, but when we pulled the drivers side it literally popped right out of the gear shaft! So the end was just wobbling around. So be careful if they are a little older, unless you are replacing them.

Careful with the nitrous.. It can be very unforgiving. I've had my IM go BOOM on me a few months back, mainly due to faulty tuning. But other than that I love it.

Make sure you get colder plugs, and retard timing if you can. I'm currently running a mild N/A nitrous build.

Yeah ive been juicin for awhile now. I've had plug strap completly melt into a ball on the side of a plug! I've done some good learning with nitrous before I shot anymore. I got zex plugs, converted dry to wet kit, WOT switch, Bigger open exhaust, better fogger, and a nice purge. Im working on getting a LAUNCH NOS system, to control my juice a little better. Im kinda thinking I might just go with an individual port system for better distribution. Even though its kinda hard with the IM we got. Thanks for the advise though! +1 rep to ya playa!!!

Re: New Engine install this weekend!!!

Ahh.. I use the NGK 1 step colder plugs, i've heard bad things from the zex plugs, but.. I've never tried them. I'm currently running a zex kit. 75 shot, purge, bottle heater, nitrous pressure gauge, aem wideband, wot activation, etc the works lol.. My other mods are 2.25" exhaust, AEM v2, HP Race header, pnp vtec head, stage 1 exedy clutch, soon-to-be-installed Stage 2 cam /w titanium valve springs, and all tuned with AEM FIC.

Yeah, I hear you with the IM, i'm gonna swap over to a y8 manifold soon. A guy on 7GH is making a bolt-on ready y8 mani so we dont gotta hack up our tb and ****.

Thanks man, and it's nice to see some other people giving nitrous a try. Alot of pussies and haters out there.

Re: New Engine install this weekend!!!

I have no issues with nitrous but in CA it is illegal to have anything in the bottle on the streets which defeats the purpose of buying a nitrous kit.

Yeah, that sucks! Here in Utah you can have the bottle filled, but if its opened your screwed! Alot of the cops out here really dont know much about it for some wierd reason... Unless they are on the racing task force. **** there was one time I had a guy revving his engine next to me at night at a light, so I purged on his ***, of course I have an intimidator purge that shoots out from the back edge of my hood with a bright blue led, and little did we know it, but a cop was behind us in my lane! When we pulled off, we were not really gonna race, but the cop pulled out from behind me and pulled the other guy over! I was like " HOLY ****!" and got the hell out of there!
