Okay im about to buy an engine (d17), from a local yard, and im wondering what kind of paperwork I need to ask for to prove the mileage? Any answers you all have on paper work I should ask for would be helpful!
Re: Used engine paperwork?
Have you made sure that the engine runs well and everything and a compression test. Im just curious how much is a d17 and how much do you plan to spend on install. Im just trying to compare to a k20a2 swap

Re: Used engine paperwork?
usually around $600-800 for d17 and maybe $1-1.5k for install. if you need a new engine, may as well go with a k swap. you are already paying over $2k for a d17.

Re: Used engine paperwork?
Well im paying 700 bucks for a 15000 mile d17, and im doing my own install. Swapping over all the accesories from my old engine,( cause im gonna do a complete teardown and rebuild for boost). And YES they have fully tested the engine before pulling it. I also get a thirty day warranty so if it does not run they will take it back. It will be a proffesional install cause I got a buddy who is an ASE tech and owns his own shop, and he says he will help me, and if it dont run, he will say so as the installer at the shop.

Re: Used engine paperwork?
Just got my 26000 mile engine today!!! Clean as can be, and even came with the exhaust and intake manifolds!!! And injectors!!! Oil residue was perfect (no milkshake look), and had a factory honda oil filter! Engine was probably still under warranty when the car was totalled! Will most definetly post pics of the install!

Re: Used engine paperwork?
The engine with the 15000 mile engine was sold before I could get to it! So I got one with the 26000 miles for 500 to my door!

Re: Used engine paperwork?
why? wouldnt it make sense to do it the other way around?
just keep your 137k mile engine in place and maintained until you build the new one with 26k miles on it. that way you will be using a well built and young 26k mile engine for pretty much as long as you own your car.
i dont know why youd want to beat on a pretty much new engine, while building up an old high miled one. i guess it depends on exactly how deep your build goes though.

Re: Used engine paperwork?
I know but my plan is to keep rotating the engines through builds. This first build is going to be pretty intense... Full on, stripped down to block build. Which with my income is probably going to take a year or two, so I figured I'd actually run into less problems that would leech off of my build money if I had a lower mile engine in ya know. Cant build and mantain a 137000 mile engine at the same time. I'll just throw in a fresh 4 banger, and strip my old one. It still runs fine, but if there is an issue, at least ill still have a daily driver.
