New Here and new to me Honda

Hey all! Been lurking for a bit and thought i'd post.

Bought a new to me '03 Civic... Kinda.

Per all the Vin's on the car, it's an 03 LX, but the body says 05 Reverb. (Pics below)

So My question is this: From 03 to 05, what changed? Near as I can tell, front fenders, hood, bumper and headlights. I had a safety done at a local Honda dealer prior to buying it and all was good. I looked under the car with the Honda tech and neither of us saw anything that screamed rebuild or major damage repaired. Your thoughts? She drives fantastic and seems to have been very well maintained, and I get all the look of an 05 on an 03. Including the 6cd changer that was on the Reverb.

Re: New Here and new to me Honda

you are right about the front bumper, hood, grill, fenders, and lights all being different, but also the tail lights are different as well. that is 100% definitely an 05 reverb (reverb only came out in 05 as well). the 01-03 are very different. if it was an 03, that means they would have had to do a full front end conversion and you would definitely see evidence of it if you looked closely (nobody ever does it perfect). if you really want to investigate, you can easily remove the rear lip on the back and examine the rear bumper itself. if the bottom edge is flat along the center, and flares down slightly on the two outer edges edge all the way around then you know its definitely an 05 (the 01-03 go completely flat all the way along the bottom edge). in my mind its definitely an 05 reverb though, no questions about it.

obviously theres an issue with the vin number. have you done a thorough check on it? there could be a big problem if that vin number was changed and obviously a reason behind it. there are other places the vin number is placed on the vehicle. there are a couple spots in the engine bay that are harder to mess around and change (maybe check those to verify what the real vin number is). but if everything clears and it runs like a champ, and you got it for the price of an 03....nicely done.

btw, where do you live? that intersection looks like one thats only 2 minutes from where i live in calgary.

Re: New Here and new to me Honda

I'll have a look at the rear bumper and see what she looks like. Vin on the firewall (Stamped into it) matches for the 03 Civic. Anywhere else to look?

Live in St. Andrews MB - Just north of Winnipeg, in fact you can almost call it a burb. 20 minutes to DT Winnipeg from my place.

Everything I checked on the Vin came up good and Clean. I know the car is from Lavallee QB but that's about all I can find out from a local Honda dealer, Car Fax and Autopac (Local public insurance)

Mods? Plan on replacing the headlights (Most likely a retro) and tailights. Come Spring, deck, speakers and all. and I need to find some rims and rubber. The steelies, snowtires and plastic hubcaps aren't going to cut it...

Tomorrow's projects, bleed brakes, fix the cruise control, tranny fluid, oil change and off we go.
