I'm looking to add cruise control to my girlfriend's 2002 Civic DX Sedan. I may go with an aftermarket kit but it would be cool to add some used parts and do a stock looking setup.

1) Will the standard wiring harness on the DX be able to support the cruise control components or will I need to upgrade to a EX (or similar) model wiring harness?

2) I hear the cruise control ties into a brake stop switch. Is this an additional part that needs to be installed or is it the same switch that's in there for brake lights? Is there wiring in place for the switch already?

I believe these are the parts I'll need:
New Steering wheel that accommodates cruise control switch
Cruise Control Pod (servo motor unit)
ECU from a model that has cruise control
wiring harness?
Brake switch for cruise control
Dash Switch for cruise control

Please check my work. Any and all comments appreciated.

its usually much easier to add aftermarket. im not sure if the dx is wired for cruise, i know its wired for alot of other things that it doesnt come with. for example it has an rpm wire even tho the gauges dont have a tach. youre also gonna need a new throttle body with the cruise lever on it.

Did you ever complete this? I have tried and gone a long way with this but haven't been able to get it to work yet. The only thing I didn't do is swap out the ECU.
I changed the;
Steering wheel that accommodates cruise control switch
Cruise Control Pod (servo motor unit)
Brake switch for cruise control
Dash Switch for cruise control
Throttle body that supports the Cruise cable.
Cruise control controller.

To aswer your Question about the wiring. No, It's not wired for cruise, you have to get into the wiring harness and pull the two wires that go to the cruise switches on Stearing Wheel. They need to be cut and extended to go to the newly installed Cruise control Module. There is a fair bit of wiring that needs to be completed.
Still I haven't been able to get it going and now suspect that it may be due to the DX ECU. Anybody have a Clue for me?

There is one wire that goes to the ECU from the Cruise control Module. Anyone know what that does? Is there anyway to fool that signal?

What color is the wire?

Also make sure you hook up the clutch switch if you have a manual...also, doesnt the ecu wire send the speed signal to the cruise box, or is the cruise hooked directly up to the speed sensor?

The Color of the wire is Blue/Orange.
The Trouble shooting document says that this when the cruise control is set this pin should read about 1V.
Im just wondering if there is some way to fool this signal and am wondering what it is for.
There is another wire that runs from pin 12 on the cruise control module that is Blue/white which connects to one of the clustor connectors (same Color) and I think out to the speed sensor but am not sure.
Still looking for a complete schematic.
MY car is automatic so the light blue wire that would be connected to the clutch pedal switch, is grounded.

Don't know what that wire is for but you might be a able to fool it by making a small circuit that regulates your batteries 12V down to 1V. I don't know if that voltage increases as your speed does or what. If the minimum voltage requirement is 1V then I don't see why you couldn't fool the cruise module into thinking that it is always at that correct speed. Your cruise would just work at any mph (if that is what that wire is for).
