Question engine to tranny

I have a question. I blew my engine got a new one. Engine spins fine until i put the tranny on. Now the engine dont spin. So i not put it in the car yet. What did i do wrong. It is a A/T so is it in park and how do i check.

i don't think it's the transmission itself. when automatics are in park, the axles are kept from moving, not the engine. the torque converter is what joins the engine to the transmission, and that creates a fluid connection, not a mechanical connection.

maybe the shafts are binding, is the trans mounted flush to the engine?
