Exhaust burning bumper

I got a magnaflow exhaust installed a few months ago. I bought it used and it came off a d/lx and so i had a shop customize it so it will fit my si(ex) set up. I noticed a while ago that some carbon was building up where the tip is. So I took a look again today and I noticed that it has burned my bumper pretty good.
What would be the best solution to stop this?
Would that heat reflective tape work?

Re: Exhaust burning bumper

its a very common problem, luckily its not very visible from behind the car unless you are looking under it like the pics show. i think any type of solution will stand out and look worse, like a metal plate or tape. its already burnt anyway so just leave it alone.

Re: Exhaust burning bumper

I think leaving it alone will only make it worse. I was lucky enough to wipe off some of the carbon build up above that but I fear its only gonna burn its way up and its gonna look like a **** stain on a diaper.

Re: Exhaust burning bumper

What i would do is go to the exhaust shop and make the muffler just a inch longer, so it wont touch the bumper. U can do it by adding a lil piece of pipe the same size ur exhaust is and welding it back on the exhaust, and then just weld the muffler to it... It will cost u like 50-70 bucks, but then u will solve this problem for ever...

I would not leave it like that... It will just get worse...

Re: Exhaust burning bumper

good idea, yeah its due to the exhaust not sticking out enough. it should be at least flush with the bumper. my old exhaust had this problem and thats how mine got burnt. the rsr i have now is long enough so the hot exhaust gas does not come out on the bumper.

Re: Exhaust burning bumper

Yea, Its because our stock exhausts goes under the bumper and thats why we have the problem when we get mufflers welded on...

Re: Exhaust burning bumper

i also have this same problem (still) but its more due to the fact that i have the oem lip kit and it sits low on the bumper. yours is way short though and if you want the cheap fix, you can get a hanger thats a little bit longer so your muffler sits a bit lower, but i dont know how well that will work in the long run.

mine burned like that within the first couple days and it hasnt changed in 3 years, so it might not get much worse.

Re: Exhaust burning bumper

Yeah mine is real bad from my past exhaust... But now that ive switched to the hks high power, it comes out at an angle and low, so it doesnt touch my bumper. But if ya dont fix it, it will get worse, mine did.

Re: Exhaust burning bumper

I have the same problem on my IX. I use "purple power" to clean the exhaust residue from the bumper every 2 days. I have no catalyst and use methanol so it makes a mess if I let it go for more than a few days.

Re: Exhaust burning bumper

Thanks for all the help guys. I put some heat reflective tape on. Its good for 400F continous opertating temp. Hopefully this solves the problem. Its really sticky and if it falls off ill just put more on. Heres a few pics. Ill be sure to update how it works in a few months.
You also cant see it on the car from behind which is nice.

Re: Exhaust burning bumper

not to mention, instead of the bumper getting dirty now, the tape is just going to get dirty...
