About to change my Auto transmission Fluid...
About to change my Auto transmission Fluid...
First of all I have a 2002 Civic LX auto. It just hit 62K miles on and according to what i read i need to change my auto transmission fluid. The transmission still shifts fine and it doesn't slip, so i was wondering do i need to change my auto transmission fluid?
Another thing if i do change my transmission fluid i am going to use hondas ATF-Z1 transmission fluid. What kind of price should i expect, and how much do i need? I am planning on filling and draining the transmission 3 times as it says in the manual...

A single drain and refill is 2.9 Qts.
The #s for the drain washer is 90471-PX4-000
Majestic shows the ATFZ1 as $7.07 list and they sell it for $5.11 ( It cannot be shipped) Take those prices to the dealer when you buy the fluid, Im going to try it. They may match the price.

honda service manual. you could do it 3 times while driving it inbetween, but it gets expensive. they say that cause you actually have 9 qts of fluid in the trans and only 3 qts comes out for a drain and fill. i just do it once a year.

I see, I think I remember reading on here that its better to change it in small amounts so the change is not so dramatic since trannies could be sensative to the removal of friction material in the fluid.

yeah you want to mix in the new fluid gradually, and its a waste to just drain it out again.
