02Civic EX: are these rpm's normal when going 60mph?
-2002 honda civic ex manual-
ive never driven a vtech so im not sure if this is normal..but the car hits a little under 3000 when going 60 mph kinda feels like i have to shift even though im on 5th already..but tremble goes away after 60. the car hits nearly 4000 rpm when going 80 mph..is this normal or is there something wrong..

v-tech is a telephone.
v-tec is what we have in our vehicles.
just saving you the hassle of people making fun of you in the future for using the term v-tech. anyway, vtec stands for valve timing electronically controlled, so i dont think it would change your fuel efficiency much. but then again, if youre hitting v-tec, chances are you arent really caring about your fuel efficiency at that moment anyway.
as for the rpms, that sounds right. when i am at about 100km/h (62ish mph) im usually a hair over 3000 rpm. at about 130km/h (80 mph) its usually just over 4000 rpm. yours sound right on the button. thats exactly what the car should be at.
and yes, when youre on the highway and hit 70-80, you just wish you could hit that 5th gear down into a 6th, but we are not that lucky with this car. it would be nice though.

Re: 02Civic EX: are these rpm's normal when going 60mph?
I think the vtec kicks in at close to 4000 but im not sure if it still does it without a heavy foot on the gas??? I dunno but last weekend I ran about 80mph and 4k rpms on a 6hr drive with ac on and some stuff in the car. Still got 31mpg so I dont think it was going.
I could be tottaly wrong and it doesnt use up much fuel but ive heard it does. And ya the rpms are correct 5th gear is a poor overdrive.
