So I installed my new wheels, and I'm running a 17 x 7.5 rim with a 215/45/17 tire. The rears are now rubbing on that shitty little annoying inner fender lip. I really like the stance that I have now, and don't really want to raise up my suspension. So I inquired with some local guys about fender rolling. One body shop charges $75 per side, BUT he said that the paint will most likely crack and will require body work afterwards. So...I'm looking for advice from guys here who have actually done this procedure already. How did you pull it off without cracking the paint? I'm thinking of taking a disc grinder to shave down that lip a bit. I also read about using a baseball bat and a hammer (sounds kinda ghetto). Anyway, any thoughts on these procedures?

I did mine with the fender rolling tool...local guy here let me borrow it for $20. You need a heat gun to warm up the paint and then roll the fender..i had some inner cracking but no outer cracking..great for 1st time

if professionally done there should bo no cracking or peeling if done the rite way so i would stay away from that shop.

what about taking a dremel and just cutting the lip? mine is getting very rusty and i wanna avoid costly body shop repairs. im sure if you go slow and steady in small sections, it would work right? so long as you let it cool down during runs so the metal doesnt heat up too much and bubble the paint.

i just got some wheels that are 17x6 with tires 215/45/17 its at stock height now but if i lower it will i ned to roll the fenders as well or just put a 205/40/17 tire instead?

Yeah, that's exactly what I was thinking of doing. Just trim it down a bit, but still leave some in order to save the 'structural integrity' of the fender due to that bend in the metal. I would then just throw some black paint on the bare metal so it won't rust. Anyway, if I do it and it turns out, I'll be sure to take photos.

Are you sure a 215 tire will even fit on a 6" wide rim? Anyway, with a 215 tire you will definitely run into problems if you lower it more than 1.5 inches roughly. It may look like it won't interfere while the car is sitting, but you need to take the suspension travel during cornering and hitting bumps into consideration.

um not sure on the exact size of the rim being 17x6 got the wheels in a trade... just know the tires say 215/45/17... i was thinking of getting a 205/40/17 or if the tire is 215 does it mean the rim is 17x7.5 so then i need a 215/40/17 tire?

According to this chart, a 215 tire will not fit on a 6" wide rim. You can also see the difference in size between the 205 and the 215, and how much your speedometer will be off.

Hmm...looks good with the size you have. Why not just go with the 215/45/17 again and only drop it an inch? You shouldn't have any problems. If you get the 205/40/17, the wheels will look too small.

ya lemme know if you dremel yours. touchup paint would work for the back metal lip after cutting to keep rust away.
