Turbo Kits.....

Ok guys,

Now i was just doing some random looking around on ebay, and typed in turbo's and well i found a few kits that are quite cheap and honestly dont look to bad but please could you check out the links and just honestly tell me what you think..

I mean dont just instantly say its rubbish, i'm looking for solid un-biased opions on these kits.
As i can get hold of one of these easier then a dezod kit,

anyway the links, the best one i saw was http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/D-Ser...Q5fAccessories

Sorry i cant make links at work so you'll just have to copy/paste

Anyway the next one is http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/SPA-T...Q5fAccessories

and finnally http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/J-SPE...Q5fAccessories

Well let me know what you think, the first kit has ALOT of stuff, and the only thing i'll need is a downpipe which i can get from dezod or get one made..

Cheers guys,

Tom

Re: Turbo Kits.....

I would worry about that manifold especially. And the fact that it has so many applications. It does come with a lot of stuff, and most of it may be usable. Things to worry about:
1. Those cheaper quality manifolds crack very easily
2. Cheap turbos are hit or miss but can fail catastrophically with things like the housing cracking in half
3. That intercooler style is tough to run piping on the em2.
4. The BOV and wastegate may work for a while but look pretty cheap and could just stop working due to quality of parts.
5. 'universal' intercooler piping can turn into a major nightmare unless you can cut pipe and weld easily, and those abilities only make it a slightly smaller headache.

My advice says to get to dezod quick. They are getting out of the d17 turbo game and are selling their inventory and rights to their turbo kit. They are really cheap right now and outstanding quality. I realize shipping may be a lot, but thats the way it goes sometimes.

So what does this mean for me wanting a turbo for my D17 will it be easier to buy one or harder as i do not know anyone other then dezod... plus i cant afford to turbo for a while.

Cheers for looking tho baron, help apprciated... again

Re: Turbo Kits.....

Can't afford a turbo for a while? Then you're probably not going to like the outcome of this generic "universal" turbo kit. Those kits have caused nothing but headaches and there's a reason they can sell them so cheap.

Taking a shortcut trying to get a little extra power for now even if it does work right is only going to double the price when you blow a gasket, have a manifold crack on the welds, etc the list goes on.

If you can't afford it right now and want some power go with a nitrous kit. You'll still have the gas mileage you get right now without the whole "**** i wonder if my car will get me to work today" paranoia. Plus the cheap power you'll get out of it now would probably equal the amount of "power" you would get from this "Super Awesome Generic Everybody Uses Turbo Kit" on STOCK internals.

It means when you go to turbo your car you may not be able to buy dezod's kit. It has become too expensive and too low volume for them to keep producing their products. Hopefully another shop/company will buy the rights to produce their stuff. You will still be able to order the more generic parts from them but from my understanding they are going to stop producing their manifold, downpipe and charge piping kits for our cars. However... peakboost has a kit in development right now. They have done all the fab and test fitting on a test car and it should be available this summer sometime. If you are serious about buying a turbo kit and you are certain you are going to do it, you might look into picking up a dezod mani/dp combo before they sell off their stock of them. After you have those two the rest of the stuff isn't too difficult to piece together. You would need to find a turbo the same size as their t3/t4 but that shouldn't be hard. After that, IC piping isn't too difficult to do. Good luck with whatever you choose.
