hmmm i mean they are slow so just choose your races wisely. my d17a2 whipped on all other single cam hondas around...also beat a ls integra etc etc. I guess you got to know how to drive. I wouldnt go trying to test Type R's or G35's or CTS's etc. Just choose your races wisely. But now...KSWAP FTW

its hard to say that when youre climbing a mountain in second gear and the engine is screaming at 5k rpms yet your top speed is 35mph and every other car on the road is piled up behind you. and dare you switch into third, the car starts to lose speed.

lmao!!! it really is frustrating i know...i used to have a full header straight back exhaust and i had to climb some stupid 2 lane hill and i had several cars behind me and all you can see is my lil civic with 4 people in it and my car is SCREAMING up the hill at a mind blowing 45 mph (posted speed is 55)

honestly our cars are complete garbage on bottom end torque wise. if u really plan on making urself feel better by racing people...i personally would do it on the highway at higher speeds.

no joke every vehicle that tries to race me in So-Cal (9 times out of 10 its some LIFTED 4x4 truck with SOCAL stickers all over the back) i'll punch the gas while we're both going 95mph...keep going with him to about 100mph and then they can't go anymore since i'd say 80% of the vehicles as far as trucks or GM suv's are governed at 100 mph these days lol...i continue cruising till my car tops out

i beg to differ on that. im always driving through mountains here in tx and im always passing everybody. i have never had a problem going up hills. my civic dx never had any stress going up hills and i mean steep hills. i think your exagerating a lil..

hmmmm

Texas = sea level.

Mojave Desert /Southern California = 4,950 feet above sea level + 120 heat summers.

i don't think so.

i meant real mountains (smokey, sierra nevada, etc) not small hills and valleys. where you are driving up 50 degree inclines at 6000 ft for half an hour and theres barely any air to breathe for you, let alone the car. i drove thru texas twice and never saw any mountains.

Re: 01-05 Civic D17A1, very slow car or what?

well maybe ur civic just came "super fast" from the dealership.

gearbox knows exactly what i'm talking about and i'm sure 75% of the users on this forum would tell u as well our cars in stock form suck.

i have the non-Vtec LX sedan and cramming 4 other people to get off base sucks. the user manual strictly states that our cars are not to exceed 800 pounds of gross weight inside. combine that with sharp inclinated mountains and thinner air along with the 120 degree heat and i can almost gurantee you your engine isn't breathing the way it should be as well as driving it around in high gears. LX models of the sedans are rated at 115 horsepower...do the math thats 90 to the wheels if ur lucky and there is no way in hell our cars are pulling max load "EASILY"

i drive thru El Paso on interstate 10 to go see my family in dallas during leave and uhh yeah my car runs alot smoother with a noticeable increase in acceleration. i've at least been to both places. bring ur car out here and you'll see.

my 90whp auto + myself + big mountains = fail lol. i had to wear earplugs because my exhaust got so loud from the engine running at 5k non stop and almost turning the pipes red.

Re: 01-05 Civic D17A1, very slow car or what?

when i lived at sea level, my car actually felt normal and more than fast enough for everyday driving. living up at 5000ft is a whole different ballgame, and even small hills are a challenge for the car. i usually keep it in d3 because 4th gear is pretty much useless. when i was moving with my car and three peeps inside plus some baggage in the trunk, when we got around wyoming/colorado we could not get the car above 30mph at times and we were in the right lane behind the semi trucks with our hazards on while the left lane cars were flying by at 65.

Re: 01-05 Civic D17A1, very slow car or what?

i live in the western tx. as western as it gets and trust me there are nothing but steep *** hills over here. franklin mountains!!! i live right next to them. my engine is stock and pink civic doesnt need to be a smart ***. unfortunatly i never had any problems going up steep *** hills and mountains. but i do mostly ride by myself. i have the 115hp manual. but no problems going up some crazy hills. and im origonally from fl. so im not used to driving up hill like these. and ive been to souther cali and nevada which ive seen the same things. i used to have a 4 banger 97 accord and had trouble going throught the mountains and hills. but when i got my civic it had no problems.

hahahaha

people get confused when i tell them i'm boosting my civic in a month (stage 1 turbo..6psi on stock internals)

they ask "oh so ur finally going to participate at the tracks this summer?"

i look and tell them "no...i just wanna be able to pass semi trucks with people inside my car"

Re: 01-05 Civic D17A1, very slow car or what?

so the 2.2L accord had more trouble going up hills than a 1.7L civic? idk about that, my mom has a stock 92 accord and its much faster than my modded civic could be in any situation. and i have all sorts of mods, weight reduction, and smaller/lighter rims.

Re: 01-05 Civic D17A1, very slow car or what?

i thought the same thing when i test drove the civic. but my accords engine was stock and had 250,000 miles on it and it think that it lost ALOT of horsepower thru out the years. my accord used to be faster that my civic when i first bought it. but around the time when it had low milage and it was newer drove thru mountains or hills. but you guys can attack me for what im saying but im speaking the truth

yeah i was really impressed. thats why i bought another honda. the accord still drives pretty good to this day. and it never broke down on me. but it lost alot of its power.
