Rim Buying help
On Craig’s list I just founds black 17s for 200 with 2 spare tiers, this seems to good to be true. When I go to buy these tomorrow what should I look for as for red flags so I’m not getting ripped off.
Re: Rim Buying help
first of all make sure they are your 4 bolt pattern, or universal 4 bolt patterns (8 holes). it looks like they are universal but its hard to see from that picture.
second, place each one face down so youre looking at the inside and look completely around the whole thing on the edge and on the inside looking for any cracks at all. youd be amazed at how many people sell rims with cracks in them. they are sometimes so small that you dont see them unless you look real close. this obviously means you might have to take a towel or cloth or something with you to give them a good wipe incase theyre dirty.
third, flip them so theyre facing upward and inspect the outside edge of the rims completely to make sure there are no grinds. most people get a grind now and then when they go to park or whatever, but its usually minor. just make sure there are no huge grinds or gouges and that theyre in pretty good shape.
last, check the treadlife left. pics can be decieving so id say take a good look at how much rubber is left (even though at 200$ youre getting a good deal even if you have to buy new rubbers.)
if you really want to be picky, you can also inspect the inside of the rim to see if they have the weights still in place (what they use when they balance your tires). although thatd be irrelevant if the treadlife is **** and you need to get new ones put on.
hope this helps.
