just turned over 165,000 miles
just turned over 165,000 miles
is that a lot for these cars?
car looks mint inside and out
motor mounts are original and bad i think...car rocks back and forth on accel/deaccel
trans slips a little when its cold...i let off the gas between gear changes i got good at it
motor rattles around 2000rpm
i run 5w-20w synthetic and its changed every 3000miles
driver seat rocks a little...dont bother me
never had a single problem or a check engine light. cars been PERFECT NO accidents
whats your mileage and your problems? i havent really had any and im curious to know whats normal for failing on these cars...i never really seen one with this many miles

Re: just turned over 165,000 miles
I got an 03 EX Coupe with 12,000 Miles on date of purchase...the car was immaculate...came from an older woman. Got for a steal at 5500. The car runs smooth and looks brand spankin new.
Re: just turned over 165,000 miles
2002 Civic DX manual transmission. I'm at 153,000 miles. Bought new Jan 2002, $14,700 with ac, tax, des charge, etc..
I've replaced:
Timing Belt at 85k
Control arm bushing at 88k
Brakes at 90k
Engine Mount at 125k from driving 30mph on a dirt road for 40 miles
Battery and Exhaust Manifold at 140k
Timing Belt, water pump, and other drive belts at 150k
Change the oil every 3,000k. Changed the spark plugs and other maintenance.
I have input shaft problem in the transmission, found out 100k, but haven't fixed it. Same clutch.
Hope to keep the car for at least 10 years. I'm driving the car very softly, non aggressive. I get 35-40mpg. Registration and insurance are pretty cheap here in Nevada.
I'm curious also when these car fail.

Re: just turned over 165,000 miles
Well from what I hear from other drivers with our civic, its always a transmission issue. Specifically I cant tell you other than complaints with Automatics, and possibly third gear. I have an 04 Civic Sedan Ex. Best civic Ive had so far to be honest. I had a 97 Civic HB, and honestly I had nothing but issues. I consider myself to be a good driver, but I believe your vehicle will be with you as long as you be good to her haha. Expect parts taking a sh*t if your modifying it in any way. When I first purchased this car, I had a blown head gasket at 50,000 and a bad front motor mount at 59,000. Changed those both thanks to Honda Care. Now my baby drives smmoooooooth like new. No issues. Need camber in the rear tho but hey who doesnt right !!! haha
Re: just turned over 165,000 miles
oh i forgot to add. if your sticking with the d17 then don't worry about the engine man lol you get them for 500-650 dollars with 30k to 40k on them. use your own links and you should be sitting on a new ride again haha. considering other parts you might wanna look at also i.e suspension, and any other moving parts.

i drive my car hard! redline almost every time! bam! bam! bam! i try to brake this thing. it lives on...
3 clutches
2 timing belt services
front struts blew out at 40,000 (stock)
motor mount snaped at 180,000
front control arm bushings disinagrated at 200,000
about 60 oil changes done (mobil1 5-30 always + 1 can BG MOA)
it makes some noises, new ones all the time. (in the transmission) i don't care, it's a honda. (engine runs smooth and quiet at idle)
runs great. still rips right up to 112 with no problem. (stupid speed limmiter)
i guess to need to turbo it to destroy it, but i no likie turbo lag and annoying "pbshh" every time you shift or engage clutch. (my opinion)
Re: just turned over 165,000 miles
I saw a 1988 Civic LX yesterday on my way to school. Rusted to hell but still running like a champ, not to mention the hundreds of 5th Gens I see around the GTA. These cars should be able to pull 400,000 IMO
