Re: courtesy lights

this is a tough one

i remember seeing a different thread a while back saying that they should be wired up to the dome light so when u open and close the doors the led's will come on as well

if u want look in diy it might of been there where i seen the thread

Re: courtesy lights

Did you connect the relay's coil into the dome light circuit ?? Is it noisy as the lights dim ?? The fade out circuit of the light circuit is not a good source to drive a relay coil IMO.

How much current are you drawing with your added circuit ??

Re: courtesy lights

ya i connected it to the green red wire control wire, and ya its only when the lights dim. i should b drawing around 2 amps with my added circuit. what could i do so the relay doesnt make noise when the lights dim? any way i could put a diode or zener diode in there, although i dont think that would do anything.

Re: courtesy lights

The circuit design is not good to drive relay coil ( PWM Used )

If it's just 2 Amps you could most likely run it direct, I have a bunch of LEDs for my lighted key cylinder and a #2825 bulb ran off of my ignition lights connection in the column. The dome light circuit should be a bit heavier.

Is it just LEDs ?? If so you should be fine connected directly (you will have to figure out polarity, should be simple)

Re: courtesy lights

well they r cathodes, i have 2 sets, each pulls about an amp. my settup is i have one wire coming from the batterie and is spliced into 3 different leads, one goes directly to the switch for constand power, the other 2 go to the relay. fromt eh relay, one is spliced into the green red wire and the other goes to the switch. what should i be connecting it directly to? the door pin?

Re: courtesy lights

You could use the door pin(s) but they are separate for the drivers and other door(s) if you put them together without isolation (diode) it could cause other problems. You may need to use a relay. Not sure how they would handle the square wave type voltage provided, if a transformer is involved I would say no.

Re: courtesy lights

u think i could just put some sort of diode befor where the red green control wire hits my relay so that when the lgihts starts to dim it just doesnt give any power to the relay or something? (I dont no how the lights dim)

Re: courtesy lights

oh, so u mean more like attach the white blue wire to my positive and the green red wire to my negative? i just wasnt sure if i would pull to many amps and blow a fuse. what do u think?
