2.25 straight exhaust em2

car- 2002 civic ex 4dr

Ok, heres the question. Im getting greddy evo2 exhaust for my car. The pipe is 2.25" diamater, this is also the diamater of the header. The diamater of the downpipe however is 1.7" pipe.(thats the true diamater, pipe inside a pipe). So im geting 2.25 header, 2.25 exhaust. I have choices to buy 2.25inch piping cut and weld to the bends of the stock downpipe.

theres also an ebay downpipe for this model

What do you guys feel about ebay downpipe? i see it as, a pipes a pipe. expecially a downpipe. I mean you can't really have a bad downpipe. i mean, in all honestly. right?

Really you are probably paying for the name. But if anything, the ebay pipe is just as good.

That is cheap. What you have to worry about is if the flanges are mild steel, stainless steel, coated, or whatever. They will rust and screw things up.

Also... you know ebay is kinda shody so the bends might not fit the actual bends of the stock downtube.

You will have an exhaust that is super loud too...

Your car will constantly smell like gas because you yanked all the catalyst (the cat) that cleans that stuff up.

You will throw cel lights as well if you dont pick up a spark plug non fouler that moves the O2 sensor out of the exhaust stream.

Re: 2.25 straight exhaust em2

Honestly, keep the stock cat, and buy the Headers and raer cat back exhaust... this sound good, look good, and you wont have to worry bout the issue with throwing the cells off

The real best thing you can do is get the Random Technologies high flow cat converter. Its about 300 bucks if I remember correctly, but it flows really well.

Re: 2.25 straight exhaust em2

thanks for replies guys, steering clear of ebay, but replacing it for sure, having a 1.7inch pipe where it should be 2.25 is a serious retriction

Re: 2.25 straight exhaust em2

Well.. its a restriction for top end, like after 5 grand. But most of the time your not revving that high where you need power. Most driving is around town in traffic and <30 mph speed zones. With a larger downpipe you will lose torque.
