Re: getting new headlights

Theres a DIY for how to open it up. Oven technique with wet cardboard. i think i used 250 or so for 10min. watching the cardboard so it not burn lol, rewet if you reheat it. Follow the DIY for how to open, pull and pry with flathead screwdriver.

Once open mask of what you dont want painted, you can see what i didnt paint, the big chrome part, also where it steps up 1/2" i didnt paint. the small chrome area i left unpainted, and the top part of the chrome piece i left unpainted, i did paint the buttom half. I think this really set it off nice.

Just use really small pieces of masking tap to line your edges, dont use the ripped side of the masking tape for edges, use the straight edges and take your time to make a "perfect" edge lining. The better your edges the better your paint job. Small pieces and depending on how many coats you use you might want 2 layers of masking tape.

Paint, couple coats, wait a few min inbetween coats for drying. becareful not to apply to much in one coat or youll get drips. if you **** up real bad, let it dry! i mean wait 12 hours, sand the **** up, and repaint. I say 12 hours cause if you only wait the suggested "drying time" for your paint it won't be dry and finger prints will show and it wont sand very nicely.

after painted, wait 12-24hours for it to completely dry. put back together, use the oven technique again, and when it comes out (wearing gloves hot hot hot) push it together as hard as you can, its tough you wont break it, don't quote me though, repeat this as you see neccisary. Than use some store bought clear silicon to double up on the sealant. Don't want condensation do ya? should be set, you could leave it seat for 2hours to make the silicon completely dries and seals properly. Up to you, most important thing be patient, take your time, if you take your time it will be perfect, you can't really break em, so don't worry about that.
