Check Engine + Battery + No Speedometer
Check Engine + Battery + No Speedometer
Ok here's the scenario. Had my alternator tested at Napa about a month or two ago. Found out my alternator was dying, so I got a new one and put it in. No problems since.
Well... today I was driving. Check engine light and battery light both popped up at the same time, and my speedometer stopped working which was odd because, when I suspected my alternator failing the first time all gauges went out while I was driving (fuel, rpm, speedometer, milage, etc...)
I don't think it's my alternator, as I just put in a brand new one. I don't think it's my battery, cause I just put in a new one also. Could it be a fuse?
BTW it's a 2001 Honda Civic EX v-tec.
This is frustrating! And I do not/can not afford to have a mechanic look at it.

Re: Check Engine + Battery + No Speedometer
Sounds like the #4 fuse blown under the dash. It powers the speedometer, charging system monitor and various other things like the EVAP which would cause the check engine light to come on.
Re: Check Engine + Battery + No Speedometer
What is the code it's giving?
And try the gauge diagnostic, I forget how to set it off.
Check fuses, and your o2 wires, this system is all relevant (o2 heaters, eld, vss)

Re: Check Engine + Battery + No Speedometer
i had the same thang happen to me and i also thoght that it was my alternator but it was an o2 sensor that grounded out and then blew the alternator fuse so after a new fuse and o2 sensor it worked just fine and still is
